TURKEY WILL NOT RELINQUISH CYPRUS FOR THE SAKE OF THE EU MEMBERSHIP

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus President Mehmet Ali Talat, paid a visit to Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis in his office at the Secretariat General for EU Affairs in Ankara.

"The Cyprus issue doesn't pose a problem for Cyprus' EU membership, thus it can't either pose a problem for Turkey's EU membership" said Egemen Bagis and added "Turkey won't relinquish Cyprus for the sake of the EU".

Mehmet Ali Talat evaluated the news regarding EU term president Spain's proposals on the Cyprus issue. Talat said they attached great importance to the solution of the Cyprus problem and would welcome any assistance towards the solution. Stating that they would welcome any assistance from the EU term president Spain towards the solution, Talat said "We exchanged views about the possibility of conducting a summit in Spain."
