"SUPPORT OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT IS OF GREAT IMPORTANCE IN THE FULL MEMBERSHIP PROCESS"
Organizing a press meeting following the contacts he made in the European Parliament, Strasbourg, Egemen Bagis, Minister for EU Affairs and the Chief Negotiator, stated that the reforms in Turkey were being closely watched and highly appreciated by the EP.
Bagis stated that he met, following the elections held in June, with the new president, new social group and some important commission presidents of the EP. Bagis said that those contacts were important in terms of ensuring a good communication with the EP in the coming period.
Bagis said: "The parliamentarians I met are well aware of Turkey's power in energy, fight against illegal migration and particularly in economy. I have realized that the reforms in Turkey are closely watched by the EP."
Noting that EU was one of the most important peace projects of the world, Bagis emphasized he had the opportunity to explain to his European colleagues that a peace project without Turkey would not be fully completed and he added that they were also aware of the fact.
Bagis noted that the democratic opening, normalization of the relations with Armenia, the surrender of the members of the PKK were closely watched by the EP. Stating that the democratic opening in Turkey was being taken into account by the EP, Bagis said: "when concluded positively, Turkey will have been eliminated from one of its serious burdens."
